Our Story

Chef Sunny Thomas has always loved the culinary arts. Growing up around the many street food vendors found in every street corner of Bombay, he took every opportuinity to learn this unique but varied food culture.

Although street food is common all over India, street food in old Bombay (now Mumbai) is noted because people from all economic classes eat on the roadside almost round the clock and it is sometimes felt that the taste of street food is better than restaurants in the city.

In Bombay's buzzing streets, filled with a thousand hawkers dishing out cheap eats, Chef Thomas honed his unique culinary skills, later working in some of the finest and highly regarded establishments in the city.

Not content to rest on his laurels, Chef Thomas took his expertise to a new frontier. Coming to Glasgow in 2005, he worked as the head chef for a then unheard-of City Center eatery serving Glasgow's discerning diners with his unique brand of cookery.

After achieving unparalleled success in his work, he felt he had to move on yet again. Bombaywalla has been a long held dream of his. Since opening his doors on the 6th of December 2021, Chef Sunny Thomas has built a dedicated following for this Indian street food restaurant.

Bombay, from the very beginning, has been a city enamoured of its food, eaten, often as not, out in the streets, where everyone manages (for the most part) to get along.

At Bombaywalla, it has always been about the goodness of food, both in nutrients and taste, enjoyed with friends and family, just like on the streets of Bombay.
